In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.

The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts.

Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.

However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.

Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic work’s nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.

This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.

To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of November 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Don’t post. Don’t log on. Don’t even visit the website. Don’t give them that sweet ad revenue.

Tumblr’s stock has already taken a hard hit. Let’s make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.

Reblog to signal boost! We must force change.

6am to 6am CET, for those who need to know

Instead of blogging, go work on your current WIP, watch a new TV series, and text your friends. (Or whatever variation on that theme which works for you.)

Alright, listen up,

Now that Tumblr has completely fucked most people with killing their links (if you put any link, even one that directs back to a Tumblr post, it no longer shows in the search engine), it’s on YOU, the consumer, to make sure things get noticed. By that I mean, if you LIKE something and you don’t reblog it, that’s right, that’s less chance of it getting seen. When a post does poorly, the creator will eventually stop creating. This goes for gifs, icons, headers, writing, art, you name it. Creators will eventually stop. So, you LIKE something, click that little reblog button. Click the queue option. If you want to keep seeing your favorite creators, it’s up to YOU to make sure their posts actually get seen.

And, before anyone wants to pipe up, one person DOES make a difference. If you’re reading this thinking “oh, someone else will reblog, I don’t have to!”. Well, no. You’re wrong because if YOU’RE thinking that, many other people are as well which means, no the post will not be seen and the creator stops creating (or at least publishing for your unpaid consumption).

The post doesn’t match your blog aesthetic? Make a new blog. You don’t have to maintain it. Just click the reblog button and it’ll STILL help get the creators some form of recognition.

If you like seeing creations from creators, then help them out and hit the damn reblog button.

Wait a sec, so my fics won’t show in the search engine because I link back to my masterlist in all my fics? Fuck you, tumblr, that’s how I get new readers. I know that’s how I get new readers because I see it in my notes; someone will like/reblog my new fic, then I see them again and again in my notifs, liking older fics of mine, fics they found on my linked masterlist (again, usually liking, not reblogging. Reblog people’s stuff guys, it gets more exposure that way!).

I am fortunate enough to have a large enough following that my stories usually gain traction without needing the search bar, just through my taglist and reblogs I get more readers. But for blogs with less visibility, or just starting out, or who haven’t written as much as I have? But who still want to share what they do have? So that maybe other people will see it and like it, and maybe even share it? You’re depriving them of showing up in a search because they dared to promote their own work and link on their post because you think that’s the best way to fight porn bots/scammers, which is hurting your content creators.

SO IF YOU SEE A FIC OR PIECE OF ART YOU LIKE, REBLOG IT. IT’S NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT TO DO SO.

Huh, I thought that the link thing has actually been going on for a couple of years (that’s why I keep stubbornly self-reblogging pieces that have like AO3 links in them). Still boosting though!

Dealing with the rude anon under the cut. keep scrolling if you don’t want to see.

THAT’S IT. I’ve had enough of this. You’re an ass who only pops up in my inbox when I’m posting. When I don’t post, YOU DON’T APPEAR. What, you have me on notifications or something? Guess what. THAT ENDS TODAY.

Your ass is getting blocked!

I freaking tired of this, and this blog is literally the only place I have this problem with an anon. I like writing, and I like this fandom. Everyone here has been sweet except you. Like. UGGH it’s frustrating that I have to put this out there like this because you’re too much of a coward to some off anon and TALK. I’ve tried being nice, and offering to speak to you if you had a bad day. Like, there’s no excuse for this!

Taking cheap shots at my looks, and my writing. Whatever. I’m done. I’m going to keep writing now, and you won’t be able to see it anymore, so problem solved. You won’t have to see my stupid writing any more!
